7 Quick Takes, Exhausted Edition
It is finally the end of the week. I am literally TGIF here. Some hours this week dragged on and on, as the little beings who look like my children whined and fought and argued. Fence had late nights. He’s also had to work Saturdays, so we’re both pretty glad this weekend is here and should be a 2-day weekend.

Thank you to those who purchased the Healthy Living Bundle through my link. I am so glad you did, and Cameron’s dog fund is a bit closer to what they need to make a deposit now.

I asked in my cleaning confessions post and on Facebook for shower-cleaning tips. My friend Megan suggested using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide…so I did. And halleluia! It works! (Now, who can explain that so it can be a chemistry lesson?)

God apparenlty did not include “sleep through any nights, ever” in His plan for me. Firecracker wakes and wants to nurse, 2-4 times. Mr. S has been waking every single night for the last 2 weeks, at least once each night. Mama is starting to say crazy things from sleep loss.

If I can stay awake at all, I am going to kick myself to bed earlier each night so I can relax and read in bed. That could end up being a plan to fall asleep sooner, because reading in bed often puts me right to sleep.
On my reading list: Harry Potter, St. John Paul the Great: His Five Loves, and A Little Way of Homeschooling.

I am about ready to wean Firecracker. The days get long and I am easily touched-out, not to mention super-tired from the wake-ups to nurse. Don’t get me wrong, I have no fairy tale illusions that weaning will help him sleep through the night. Our oldest was 3 when she slept through the night…but if weaning gets me a smidge more sleep and helps me feel avoid over-stimulation, then everyone wins because I will be more energetic and not as much of a crazed woman.

You know how when you’re tired, you don’t want to cook? Happens to me regularly. I have a plan for this: have easy staples on hand for nights that we are busy, I am tired, or I forgot to defrost meat. Also, I am going to regularly plan easy favorites so that I can cook without thinking or constantly checking a recipe, and be assured that the kids will eat.
So far on the list:
Korean ground beef (like bulgogi, but with ground beef. Easier and waaay cheaper.)
Breakfast night
Chicken pot pie
Chili
Chef salad
Tomato soup and grilled cheese
Pizza

Here is just a lovely photo. We all need some extra beauty in our days, don’t we?
Did you know I have a FB page for this little blog now? Go on over and give it a “like”, if you like. 😉
Love your photo of beauty and I feel you on the touched-out! Eli loves to nurse quite a bit too. My nights are not my own and Joseph (3yo) has been waking up multiple times to climb in bed with us. Sleep has turned into the magical unicorn of my life. Prayers for you! I’m in such uncharted territory since my oldest weaned at 13 months. Eli is 19 mo and going strong for naps, random, and nights (sighhhh). And yes, I’m a night owl always have been. Giving up nights is so hard! It’s like asking me to be full and 100% extrovert when I know my little introvert heart loves her solitude mixed with glimpses of extrovertness. lol Okay, now my sleepy brain is rambling. haha. I’m stopping. Have a good weekend with your family!!
You know, each of my kids weaned at different ages. Only 1 of 5 has weaned himself, and amazingly he was the youngest, at 13 months. My 4th weaned at 27 months. We’ll see!
Hope you get some rest this weekend!
Gina, I am feeling your pain with the over-tired, over-touched stuff. My 15 month old still nurses 2-4 times a night. We’ve been trying to night wean for a couple months now and we’ll just say it’s not going well. I just read your above comment about weaning at 27 months….I think that might be us. Well, hang in there and have a great weekend with your fam!!
I take weaning at night verrrrry slowly, because I also try to be considerate of the others in the family. All the ideas to wean in a few nights/weeks just won’t work here because everyone will be up and crabby!
Only 1 of mine nursed for past age 2, the others weaned before 2. I’m thinking it will be before 2 for this guy, since he’s so busy during the day and barely stops to nurse except for naps.
