Women Encouraging Women: Fitness Faves on the Web
Over the summer, I ran a race on the beach, won 3rd place in my age group, and watched with awe as women 80 years old and up also won medals in their age group.
Imagine! To be 80 years old and not only walking the distance of a 5K (or jogging? I didn’t pay attention to anyone really other than myself and my kids in front of me), but winning! And in the sand!
That’s what I want. I want to be active and fiesty and enjoying life for all my years. In fact, every time I go out for a run and see others running in my area, at any age but especially the older (60+) men and women, I’m so inspired to keep going and to keep working at my physical health. After all, God so far has blessed me with strength and health, so isn’t it good to glorify Him and pursue greater fitness?
The more I run, the more I am convinced that it is very good and part of my journey seeking greater holiness (I have a looooong way to go) to keep running, to keep working to stay fit and strong.
The more I see other runners and athletes getting out and keeping moving, the more inspired I am. Here’s a handful of inspiring female athletes to inspire you, too.
This 84 yr old woman who does the pole vault.
This group of Catholic women encouraging others to start running and find greater spiritual growth as they train.
Rebecca, who inspires women to be active, to seek God, to be the best versions of themselves as women of God and Catholic wives and mothers. While she’s a former Olympian and spectacular athlete, she’s down to earth and offers great quick tips to fit faith and fitness in all day every day even in the busiest and craziest seasons. She knows–she has large family, too.
This IG feed with inspiration in fitness and faith. Also this one. Soul Strength Sisters have a blog and fitness plans, too. Love it.
Also, this post from the Blessed Is She blog is a great read. It’s about incorporating faith into fitness.
Last one to share, this video about the first female Boston Marathoner. Love it.
Very inspiring. What are your thoughts on groups like Tone It Up and Love Sweat Fitness?
Hi Samantha! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
I’ve never heard of those groups. What do you know about them?
They are pretty popular on YouTube and Instagram. I have followed them myself and found them very uplifting and helpful for weight loss. Generally they have great messages but some of the pictures they post seem over the top revealing and sexualized.
That’s such a hard part of fitness videos! I didn’t use to pay much attention to those things myself (I think because I was sweating so much, haha!), but now that I have boys who pay attention, I am much more aware of the images they see while I’m working out. And when I’m the only one watching, that still isn’t an issue for me personally, but it has changed the video choices I make when my kids are around. :/
