Women Encouraging Women: Podcasts
I may be one of the last women around to discover podcasts. Most of my days feel too noisy to take one in and hear more than three words here, five more words ten minutes later, and then the closing music and preview for the next episode. But when I decide to catch up to some episodes while I prep breakfast or dinner, or while I scan the list of to-dos in my planner, my brain engages and my soul feels full. These women make me think, laugh, and go about my day a little more inspired than when I woke up. For this homeschooling introvert of a mom, that’s a great thing.
My list certainly isn’t exhaustive of all the podcasts out by Catholic women. Feel free to mention any of your faves in the comments! And don’t forget to get in touch with me if you want to share your own story or give a shout-out to a fabulous woman in your life.
The Catholic Feminist is “a podcast for Jesus-loving women who want to be inspired, involved, and intentional. Each week, we speak with women who are living out their faith in a radical, real way.” Claire has chatted with women about launching a magazine, about being a mom and living out the call to evangelize, Catholic entrepreneurship, and more. It’s a great mix of thoughtful topics, and I feel like a smarter woman for listening.
The Gathering Place by Blessed Is She is perfect for the quick listen and for getting to know Jenna and Beth a bit more! Some of the writers have been on the podcast already, and who knows what surprise guests are coming up! It’s a joy to listen to the this podcast. I’m so glad Jenna and Beth took the leap. 😉
Thriving in the Trenches is co-hosted by Megan and Becky, who want to “encourage and equip women to universally and uniquely serve Christ in their feminine vocation. By embracing joy, laughter, freedom and friendship, we are seeking to thrive in the trenches of our domestic churches.” The ladies have covered topics from modesty to Lectio Divina to in-laws. I especially appreciate that each show’s notes includes a call to action, Scripture verse, and Saint quote.
Do Something Beautiful by Leah Darrow is new to me, but I love it. I love the stories about people who are doing things to make the world a better place. This morning I’m listening to Leah talk with Sr. Bethany Madonna about her vocation story and learning to love as God desires. Other episodes include talking with a missionary to the homeless, an Army widow, and the woman who founded the Starfish Project, a group who rescues women from trafficking.
Abiding Together is hosted by hosted by Michelle Benzinger, Sr. Miriam James Heidland, and Heather Khym. “We hope to provide inspiring and authentic content that provides encouragement for people who are on the journey of living out their passion and purpose in Jesus Christ.” I’m particularly excited about their most recent episode, “How to Thrive in the Summer”, and their up-coming book study (a podcast bookstudy! What a perfect thing for busy women, moms, working ladies, introverts…) on Pope Francis’s new apostolic exhortation “Gaudete et Exsultate” on the call to holiness in today’s world.
